Design Justice AI Institute
It has been great to be part of the team of researchers from Rutgers University, University of Pretoria, The Australian National University (ANU), University of Connecticut, and Wayne State University who have organized the 2024 Global Humanities Institute on Design Justice AI held in Pretoria, South Africa from June 30th to July 14th. The program is available here, and the live stream is is available through the Data Science for Social Impact research group’s YouTube channel.
Design Justice AI is an interdisciplinary collaboration exploring community-centered engagement of “Generative AI” (that is, the statistical modeling and synthesis of human languages, communication, arts, and cultures). The Institute is a Global Humanities Institute sponsored by the Consortium of Humanities Centers and Institutes and the Mellon Foundation.
Kath Bode, a fellow ANU-based co-organizer, is participating in the Institute, and John Noel Viaña and Will Orr, members of our ANU Justice and Technoscience Lab, are presenting their work on design justice in generative AI for mental health and dataset creation.
